The Principal Scientist (PS) has joint responsibility for achieving technical success of MEI Lab’s research projects. The PS reports to the Distinguished Scientist. The PS will act independently – guided by company policies and objectives – to make decisions on administrative and operational issues for project areas for which this person holds responsibility and will also actively collaborate where appropriate with other internal and external global scientific colleagues. The successful candidate will facilitate both NTT-sponsored and Investigator-Initiated Research activities related to the MEI Laboratory as determined by MEI strategic objectives. This position is aimed at candidates qualified to help advance strategic objectives of our Bio Digital Twin (BioDT) initiative.

This position is aimed at candidates qualified to help advance strategic objectives of our Bio Digital Twin (BioDT) initiative.

  • Provide technical expertise, leadership and input in advancing the BioDT development strategy
  • Initiate and contribute to the planning of MEI Lab activities, and work as needed with NTTRI leadership to develop broader institutional policies
  • Promote and maintain effective communication and collaboration among NTT colleagues
  • Serve as a model and mentor to colleagues across all experience levels, and promote an atmosphere of collegial excellence within the Lab
  • Be recognized as a technical and medical expert for Lab members and external collaborators
  • Serve on technical and medical device cross-functional committees, as appropriate 
  • Initiate and contribute to significant technical advances within the BioDT program 
  • Maintain scientific relevance by staying abreast of current literature, monitoring competitor activities, networking with global experts and attending relevant conferences
  • Ensure compliance with all internal / external SOPs / Rules / Regulations

  • A doctoral degree (PhD) in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline
  • Training in physiology - particularly in cardiovascular dynamics – or experience in the medical device industry is highly desirable
  • 12 or more years of relevant academic or industry experience is required
  • Technical software development experience (e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica)
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of physiological systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with statistical techniques and Bayesian inference 
  • Experience with clinical trial study design and implementation
  • Experience with establishing and maintaining a clinical KOL group
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and contribute to several projects within an environment of continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage through, and lead change in, an ever-changing and evolving external health-care environment
  • Flexibility to travel by air (to attend scientific meetings, attend NTT-RI on-campus meetings, etc.)
